Client:
Network Integrity Services (NIS) is a department of Telstra that manages the relocation of Telstra network assets (cables, pipes, pits, etc) where a project is affecting them. For example a new roundabout on an existing intersection will encroach on existing Telstra network which need to be moved to accommodate the new configuration. Network integrity ensure that relocation works are designed and constructed with minimal or no interruption to telephone services on behalf of their clients. These projects are known as Recoverable works (RWs). Whereas Telstra had outsourced much design and construction of RW's to contractors they couldn't always compare quoted works effectively. They decided in 2003 to outsource the design separately and tender the approved design to the panel of accredited contractors. Project Scope: Telstra N.I.S. invited Lectel to become part of a panel to provide them independent design services for their clients. Our brief has developed from our initial requirements in 2003 but initially was to work closely with NIS designing solutions to various Council and Main Roads initiated projects. Each design required a field visit to establish the best alternative route, a preliminary design and consultation with NIS and their client or their representative. NIS had a particular set of design standards, cad presentation requirements and focus on liaison
Our response: Outcomes: Lectel has carried out over 40 designs since late 2003 ranging in complexity from a minor intersection upgrade to a major highway with several interchanges. Designs are returned to NIS on time with accuracy and consideration of the project requirements. |
